It's the first of the month, so you know what that means?... Y&R rolled out the black folk (Ya'll know they're only showcased on or around the first of the month, and on or around the middle of the month)... So, Sofia and Harpo get into it on da street. You know, real ghetto-like, cause that's what Maria Arena DUMBBell thinks the black folk do. Sofia is a total FOOD WHORE... She just wants some cakes! She loves her cake like Phaedra loves her PEEECHUS. But that's a whole other story.

Why do they always try to be washing out the black folk on Y&R. All I can make out during this scene are the white of Sofia's eyes, her teef and that gawd awful lipstick. Harpo is drowning in that black peacoat, you can't even see his face!

Have you ever noticed that in the Winters original "apartment" (Cause God forbid Neil Winters and other black folk on the show have a mansion or ranch) the walls and most of the furniture were same color as the actors skin tone!?!? Victoria Rowell used to complain about that all the time. She would say something like, isn't it wonderful how "we" just blend into the walls and decor!?!

I have had a love hate relationship with Facebook for well over year. While I am not
loathing it at the moment, I have been systematically removing content and privatizing my profile for quite sometime now. Today, I've deactivated my account. Stop Breaking Your Own Heart: The Art of Self Sabotage

Recently I was reminded once again that sometimes I can not fix everything. Sometimes it is best to let go and step away from yet another inevitable emotional collision.

Two years ago, I ended a relationship which in retrospect began just as inexplicably as it ended. During the final days I recall the particular conversation which led to my decision to end the relationship. "I self-sabotage relationships," he said to me. The next day, I packed up his belongings and advised that perhaps it would be best if we parted ways. From the moment he walked out the door, I blamed myself. Not so much because of the choice I had made, but for the realization that I had perpetuated and subjected myself to a false relationship for months before I decided to end it.

It took me a good year before I had felt healed. It was around that 'year after' mark that I realized I needed to stop breaking my own heart over matters that are beyond my control. I also realized that the act of control should never enter into the realm of a relationship, despite predominant the notion that relationships are essentially battles for supremacy.

Sometimes people involve themselves with partners who may not necessarily compliment them. We fall into this false notion that we have found our other. There is courage in recognizing the real as opposed to the convenient. For when it comes to love, in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

The Awful Truth: My Dreams Are Gone With The Wind

One of my favorite screwball comedies of the 30's, the story of Jerry and Lucy Warrimer has inspired and been re-imagined in many a movie and soap operas.
The plot of the movie is such... Suspicions and assumptions lead the Warrimer's to begin divorce preceedings, and soon after they begin to undermine each other's attempt to find new romances.
At this particular juncture of the film, Lucy pretends to be Jerry's sister, Lola, after she picks up the phone at his apartment and he hastly explains to his love interest, Barbara, that his sister is in town visiting from abroad.
During dinner with Barbara and her family, Lola/Lucy arrives unannounced of course, to support her brother and meet his new lady. What follows is Lucy's attempt to sour any possibility of Jerry making an good impression on Barbara and her parents.
It is quite the tennis match throughout the film. The lengths to which both Jerry and Lucy go to only lead them to realize how much they trully mean to one another. Below is an earlier scene in the film, from which Lucy draws her inspiration to portray Jerry's sister.

Sometimes I wish romance was as fun and carefree as it is in The Awful Truth.

I find myself once again at a crossroads. As a result of which, I am emotionally drained and lacking focus. Just light a candle in a effort to shed some light and clarity. Almost instantly I found myself thinking… "be cheerful... strive to be happy."

I remember the first time I heard those words. I was listening to a Brothomstates set, back in 2002 which started off with a man reciting a poem which resonated with me. I did a little research and I discovered… Desiderata.

Desiderata has been with me now for nine years. I spent months trying to commit the entire poem to mind. And then I found myself letting go of that desire. I decided to carry it with me, and reflecting on it when I felt a need.

Over the last nine years, when I find myself facing uncertainty, I am drawn to Desiderata as a means of seeking solace and encouragement.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

Never one to stray from my impulsive nature - I have changed my upcoming flight plan and will be heading home a tad earlier. The last couple of days have been a bit challenging for me. As I have expressed recently, I have outgrown the length of time I have spent between jobs and have become quite restless. While it has been a delight to not bare burden of employment, the experience is now tiresome. I am anxious to start my new job.

I feel that I may have miscalculated the length of my trip in relation to what awaits me back home. Flying back on a Monday and diving into a new job on a Wednesday is quite simply a poor strategy. There are some pending matters I need to address before starting work, which would be better handled within a more comfortable timeframe - days vs. hours.  

I have enjoyed my time down here - I always do - and look forward to my next trip. In the midst of what has become a progressively overwhelming transition - shedding a five year routine, thereby altering a large part of my life for a potentially worthwhile future - I yearn for the habitual comforts and familiarity of home to get me through.

Traveling around sure gets me down and lonely

So I've fallen into my nasty habit, which happens every time I'm on holiday. I find myself at the mercy of a comfy couch, which I have been known to lay upon for hours on end throughout an entire day. The pay off is my present state - wide awake, without any motivational purpose. As a by-product of my inopportune alertness, I blog, skim ~~porn~~ website after ~~porn~~ website, check my back accounts (which don't update until 3:01am), re-play Free On Demand movies (just finished Foxy Brown, now watching My Super Ex-Girlfriend), and check torrents for the latest adult entertainment fare (strictly for anthropological research).

Talk about box office poison... Carrie: The Musical closed after 16 previews and 5 performances, despite being sold out every night of its unexpectedly limited run.

At the root of Carrie is an all too familiar tale of adolescent hardships. As a Broadway vehicle, Carrie is an UNCinderella story. Despite obvious reservations about a revival, if handled appropriately, Carrie: The Musical would both resonate with audiences and serve as great entertainment fodder for today's Broadway.

Polish the score (No, really! Have you read some of those lyrics?), amp up the production (We need more than a single chair, laser beams and revolving mirrors), cast mix of unknowns (Carrie should be played by an ingenue) and established Broadway vets (No Nathan Lane playing Mrs. White!) and you got yourself a revival that could redeem its original attempt.

There's a good reason why Larry Shifflett sometimes looks like he could be the next cover girl on Faces of Meth Quarterly. TMZ has it on good authority that if LaShi (pronounced Lash-e') ever called into KTU 103.5, he'd dedicate "You Light Up My Life" to meth. A source tells TMZ that LaShi's "drugs of choice" are meth and and more meth.

The source also claims that in addition to the meth addiction, LaShi will also be treated for bipolar disorder, constipation and restless leg syndrome when he checks into Wilton Manors Recovery Center, or as it is affectionately called Clubhouse II in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Yes, the world is full of cookie cutters, glossy duplicates, and toxic plastics. These superficials beings are in the biggest self esteem black hole. They have chosen to conform to social expectations, in a desperate search for acceptance is as temporary as any social trend. Unfortunately, conformity usually results in a minimal lack of personal emotions, lack of true self awareness and offer very little intellectual stimulation and development.

You, on the other hand, are a pretty fucking talented, eloquent, intellectual. You're fucking cute to boot, and you're humble about it. These traits represent real beauty, quite a rarity these days.

Have not slept well at all tonight, and I am not amused by this. I usually get up at 4:30a on Mondays, so that may help explain my current state.

Pissed that I don't have a single delicious sleep enhancing treat to help ease my restlessness. I have not replenished my Trader Joe's wine stock recently, so there goes that alternative.

All I can do is lay in bed and sit through an episode of All My Children. However, considering the downward spiral the show has taken, it will likely instigate aggravation than provide comfort.

First day of as a former Sephora employee and all is well - kinda. I'm still in work mode and will likely be so for some time to come. I keep having to remind myself that I don't have to work on Sunday. I don't have to place a Supply Order. I don't have to read e-mails and plan out my work load. I don't have to sign off on Sales and Payroll on Monday - no more waking up at 4:30am! Getting on a plane on Wednesday will be a the first step in my Beauty Depot Detox!

The past two weeks and the forthcoming week will be quite emotional. While I have informed my immediate management team that I will not be returning to work at the end of my vacation, I still have 58 individuals to drop a bomb on.

There are three people in particular I am considerably worrisome about disclosing my choice to move on. The First has worked with me since my promotion into the city. When I relocated to my current store, I requested he be promoted with me. The Second I have watched develop and grow into an amazing individual and is well on her way to be a great leader. The Third has made quite a Sisyphean effort, having been placed in a role not entirely suitable for him.

Part of me feels like I'm abandoning them, yet my moving on also opens a door of opportunity for them - getting them just one step closer to the next level in the retail business food chain. I have rehearsed, imagined and re-imagined what the conversations will be like, but nothing will come close to how things will actually unfold.
